Laboratory testing 1.

What is it?

Soil and where possible, water samples are collected from exploratory holes as a matter of course. On completion of site work, samples are returned to the office where they are examined and suitable representative samples are sent for Laboratory Testing.

Geotechnical testing is carried out by accredited external testing houses in accordance with BS 1377: 1991. Geotechnical Laboratory Tests are carried out by a UKAS accredited laboratory to determine plasticity index, moisture content, compaction, strength and gradings.

Chemical Testing is carried out by MCERTs accredited external testing houses in order to assess the environmental state of the site. The amount of testing recommended is evaluated using the current best practices laid out by the Environment Agency and other authoritative documents.


Why do we use it?

Geotechnical Testing provides important information regarding ground strength for use when designing foundations. Gradings can also be used to assess the suitability of materials for re-use and sale.

Chemical Analysis provides information regarding the level of contamination for determining re-use of on site materials.

Gives indication of mobility of contaminants, and so results are used to decide on remediation process.

Abbeydale BEC test samples from known depths and locations across a site to allow a picture of on-site conditions to be built up. The combined results of these tests are used for a variety of purposes including; satisfying planning conditions, designing cost effective foundations, and determining the suitability of material for re-use/sale or if contaminated, finding the most economic disposal method.
